We needed a break from boat work in the marina. A short daysail to the village of Las Animas and lunch at El Coral on the beach turned out to be the ideal way to spend the day. It was calm in the morning so we motored over which gave us a chance to run the watermaker and fill the water tanks. After lunch and a swim, the wind filled in and we had a great reach back to Nuevo Vallarta and Paradise Village.
Our long-time friends and former boat partners Mike and Joan joined us for the sail. They have our old boat, Esperanza down here as well. But they are selling her. It’s a little sad for all of us. So many great memories with her. Going sailing on Roam helps them and having experienced sailors onboard helps us while we are learning this boat.
The anchorages in the villages on the south side of Banderas Bay (Las Animas, Yelapa, etc) are very steep and deep. Almost nobody anchors. Fortunately, the enterprising locals install moorings which they will rent to you. They’ll often race out to you in their pangas when you are a mile or two away to convince you they have the best mooring. I love that. Who doesn’t love a great sales pitch — on a mooring ball.
They also try to help you hook up to the mooring which sounds nice but turns out to be a lot of risk.
